Re-Do Charity Event
I took part in a charity event which featured pop-up shops, catwalks, workshops and more. This event really focused on sustainable fashion and the way we think about clothes. Second hand clothing is possibly the one major route people can go down to better themselves when it comes to clothing. Within this event I was asked to compete in the creative sector. Using only items from Nansa Charity Shop I was asked to create an outfit inspired by a mood board provided by them. I had complete creative freedom and could use what I liked.
My garment was constructed from an old men's suit jacket, a curtain, fake bouquets of flowers, jewellery as well as recycled fabric and thread. The reason for this project was to show how things from a charity shop can transform into something very creative, throughout other catwalks they showed outfits put together from clothing from charity shops including outfits to go to the shop, pub and work. As well as a section focusing on the types of wedding dresses that have been refurbished. Throughout the catwalks they would talk about the items as well as the cost. Encouraging people to buy from charity shops is very important in the move to a more sustainable market. Not only this, but with the cost-of-living crisis people are looking for more affordable ways to shop for the necessities, and charity shops are a great source for this.
